Cruise days in France are often the highlight of a trip – and a well‑designed shore excursion makes them even more memorable 💙 At Ophorus, we specialize in private shore excursions from key French ports such as Le Verdon, Le Havre, Cherbourg, Honfleur, Marseille and others.

This guide explains how our shore excursions work, what’s included and how to choose the right experience for your time in port

🚐 Pick‑up, drop‑off and timing
  • Meeting your guide
Your driver or driver‑guide meets you at, or very close to, the cruise terminal exit. Before your tour, we send clear instructions showing exactly where to find us.
  • Return to ship on time
Itineraries are planned around your ship’s schedule, with buffer time built in. Our priority is to return you to the ship comfortably before all‑aboard time.
  • Private vehicles
Shore excursions are usually operated in premium cars or minivans reserved for your party only, with air‑conditioning and plenty of space for bags and jackets.

🗺️ Types of shore excursions we offer

Depending on the port, you can expect options such as:

    • Wine & countryside days
From ports like Le Verdon or Marseille, many guests choose vineyard visits combined with scenic drives and village stops.
    • History & culture
In Normandy ports, D‑Day landing beaches and related sites are popular, while other ports focus on medieval towns, cathedrals, markets and old quarters.
    • City highlights & easy walks
Some excursions explore nearby cities with a mix of panoramic viewpoints and relaxed walking sections, with time built in for photos and café stops.

Because each port and cruise itinerary is different, programs are adapted to your actual docking times and interests rather than using a “one‑size‑fits‑all” schedule.

👨‍👩‍👧 Are shore excursions suitable for families?

Many of our private shore excursions are family‑friendly, especially those that combine:

    • Short sightseeing walks with regular breaks
    • Villages, viewpoints and city quarters rather than long museum visits
    • Flexible timing for snacks and rest stops

Some itineraries – especially full‑day wine or very history‑heavy tours – may be better suited to older children and teens. Just let us know your children’s ages and we will suggest the best options.

✅ What is included (and what is not)?Typical shore excursions include:

    • Private transportation from and back to the cruise terminal
    • Services of an English‑speaking driver or driver‑guide
    • A planned itinerary adapted to your port times
    • Commentary and recommendations throughout the day

Entrance tickets, tastings and lunch may be included or optional depending on the tour. These details are always specified in your quote and confirmation so you know exactly what to expect.
